Voices and Evidence Frontiers (VEF) is seeking a motivated Volunteer Research Assistant to support an upcoming feasibility study in Northeast Nigeria.

The remote opportunity is particularly suited to early-career researchers and individuals interested in Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) who want to gain practical experience in humanitarian and development research.

The selected candidate will work with an experienced research team and support activities including data collection, telephone interviews, transcription, data management and research documentation.

About the Role

The Volunteer Research Assistant will support VEF’s research team in implementing an upcoming feasibility study.

The role involves collecting and managing research data while ensuring that information is accurate, complete and handled according to appropriate research and ethical standards.

Because the engagement is project-based, assignments will be provided according to the needs and timelines of the study.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct telephone interviews and administer research tools according to established project protocols and ethical standards
  • Ensure the completeness, accuracy and quality of information collected
  • Accurately transcribe interview recordings and research notes
  • Carry out data entry and basic data-cleaning activities
  • Support research documentation and data-management activities
  • Maintain the confidentiality of research participants and information
  • Follow appropriate informed-consent procedures
  • Complete assigned research activities within agreed deadlines
  • Undertake other study-related responsibilities assigned by the Research Team Lead

Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Previous experience supporting research, surveys, assessments or evaluations
  • Experience conducting telephone interviews or other forms of remote data collection
  • Experience with data entry and data-management processes
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Professionalism and commitment to producing high-quality data

Familiarity with digital data-collection tools will be an advantage.
